Fishing rules
Fishing equipment:
The river of Veidneselva and the river of Lille-Porsangerelva:
- Fly with float line, Worms (fishing float with single hook without sinker), Spinner up to 4.5 grams
Especially for the Rivdni water:
- Fly with float line, Worms (fishing float with single hook without sinker)
- Lures and Spinners up to 10 grams, Worm drag («amerikaner»)
- In the Rivdni water it is also permitted to use boats, canoes and kayaks with motors up to 4 horsepower.
Especially for Kjæsvannet:
- Fly with float line, Worms (fishing float with single hook without sinker), Lures and Spinners up to 10 grams, Worm drag («amerikaner»), Otter boards is also permitted in Øvre Kjæsvannet
- Net fishing is prohibited in the entire Kjæsvannet.
- In Kjæsvannet it is permitted to use boats, canoes and kayaks with motors up to 4 horsepower.
Only nets are allowed when landing fish

Quotas the river of Veidneselva and the river of Lille-Porsangerelva 2025:
Quotas for residents of the Veidnes, Brenna area as well as residents of Lebesby municipality. And those who have cabins and houses in the same area, including those with cabins by Kjæsvannet and who are residents of Finnmark:
- Daily quota: 3 salmon per day, 3 sea char per day
- Seasonal quota: 6 salmon, 6 sea char
Quotas for residents of Finnmark:
- Daily quota: 2 salmon per day, 2 sea char per day
- Seasonal quota: 5 salmon, 5 sea char
Quotas for residents outside Finnmark:
- Daily quota: 1 salmon per day, 1 sea char per day
- Seasonal quota: 4 salmon, 4 sea char
Catch and release is prohibited.
All salmon over 70 cm must be released.
Same quotas in both rivers.
No quotas for sea trout.

Fishing rules 2025
1. The fishing license sale takes place at Veidnes Bygdehus on weekdays at 17.00 to 18.00. Fishing license for Sunday are drawn/sold on Saturday.
2. Fishing license seller does not issue membership in Veidnes Fishing Association – this responsibility is assigned to the board. Those who claim membership must themselves document their right in accordance with § 2 of the statute.
3. In line with decisions from the Norwegian Environment Agency, the board determines the fishing regime.
4. The annual meeting authorizes the board to make the necessary decisions on matters such as conservation, harvesting of fish and more.
5. Licensees deliver a catch report – 20 July, 10 August and 02 September – the last time 2 days after the end of the season. A report form is issued.

- You are a Child up to and including the year you turn 12. They fish for free, but must choose a zone if they do not meet the requirements for membership.
- You are a Youth from the year you turn 13 up to and including the year you turn 17. They pay 1/2 price if they have a membership in Veidnes Fishing Association. Other youth pay adult price according to their residential address.
- You are an Adult from and including the year you turn 18.
7. Number of rods/fishing licenses:

8. For youths, two additional fishing licenses can be sold with the exception of zone 1B. They must first participate in the regular draw.
If there are more than one people who want a fishing license, there will be a lottery. The same applies to fishermen from Finnmark, where 2 fishing licenses in zones 1A, 2 and 3 as well as 1 fishing license in zone 1B and 3 fishing licenses in the river of Lille-Porsangerelva are reserved for fishermen who can document their residential address and are registered in Finnmark.
Members of Veidnes Fishing Association who want to buy a day fishing license must participate in the regular draw.
Adults and youth who want to buy a season license must be members of Veidnes Fishing Association.
9. The sale of tourist fishing licenses will continue – 2 fishing licenses in zone 2 and two fishing licenses in the river of Lille-Porsangerelva. Price per fishing license are the same as for foreigners plus 20%. The tourist fishing license can only be purchased in the fisherman’s name by local tourism companies.
10. Fishing times are determined by the Norwegian Environment Agency. Last year:

11. It is forbidden to cut down healthy and dead trees closer than 50 m from the rivers and Kjæsvannet.
12. Lures are not permitted in the river of Veidneselva or the river of Lille-Porsangerelva.

13. Only nets are allowed when landing fish – the use of hooks/claps is prohibited.
14. Disinfection of the fishing equipment is required. This is carried out for a fee in connection with the sale of fishing licences.
15. Quotas for residents in the Veidnes, Brenna area and residents of Lebesby municipality. And those who have cabins and houses in the same area, including those with cabins by Kjæsvannet and who are residents of Finnmark:

16. Shell samples
Shell samples are requested from all salmon except those released back into the water. Envelopes for shell samples are handed out by the fishing license seller, and samples taken are handed in to the fishing license seller at the village hall. When the season is over, everyone who has submitted shell samples will
be entered into a drawing for a prize of 2 day fishing license in the rivers Veidneselva or Lille-Porsangerelva.
